Attuquayefio warns Appiah and Konadu of saboteurs
By Daniel Oduro
Former Hearts of coach, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio believes Black
Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah and his deputy; Maxwell Konadu can win laurels for
Ghana. The former Kotoko players are partnering at the international level for
the second time after they led the Black Meteors to win Gold at the 2011 All
Africa games in Maputo, Mozambique. The appointment of the duo ends the
consistent appointment of expatriates to lead the Black Stars since 2005.
Their appointment followed the abysmal performance of the Black
Stars at the recently held Nations cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
Appiah and Konadu have an arduous task to not only qualify Ghana
to the next edition of the Nations cup but they must win it and also reach the
semifinal of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. But Jones Attuquayefio who
guided Hearts of Oak to CAF champions league glory in the year 2000 believes
the duo will repay the confidence repose in them by the FA and indeed the
football fraternity.
“I am praying that they should be able to achieve honours
for this country and I believe they can do it. I am cautioning them to be very
careful because people will try to break their relationship. It is easy for
people to apportion blame when things go wrong so I think that since they have
agreed to come together as coaches they should be careful of the saboteurs.”
Jones advised.
Jones
said the only thing that can stop Appiah and Konadu from reaching the top of
their careers is when they stop trusting each other.
Appiah
and Konadu will be in charge of their first assignment when the Black Stars
take on Lesotho and Zambia in a Nations cup and world cup qualifier in June.
